As horseman’s eye learns to recognize correct conformation and  gait patterns, and also learns to discern when something’s “off”, as a bank teller learns to spot a counterfeit.

As renowned Christian scholar C.S. Lewis noted, in pondering when things in the world are not as they “ought” to be, “A man does not call a line crooked unless he has some idea of a straight line.”
