Solid footing. Trail obstacles and life

I love when horses seem to “hunt” the trail obstacles – bridges, water boxes or tarps. Checking out the footing, as if to consider the risks and plan the route across.
How solid is the foundation? How deep the water? Will the tarp move once I commit? Is anything lurking underneath?
Logically, a horse, unlike his rider, doesn’t have this information at the outset. He has to test it…by faith.

Uncertain time s– we all have them – can shake us up, can’t they?
Election. Epidemic. Economic downturn.
When our stability’s threatened and all that’s familiar is beginning to crumble, we ask –
What’s my “THIS I KNOW” in life?

The question reminds me of an old hymn that people of faith have sung for stability through two world wars and the Great Depression.
They rehearsed their “THIS I KNOW” in song, as a on a “solid Rock, I stand”…

All other ground is sinking sand…
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay

Government, investments, career, health, physique – If whatever we’re ultimately trusting in can shift or disappear, it’s not worthy of trust. Like a wobbly trail bridge.
