Braiding a show horse’s mane.

I used to sing while braiding manes.

After a day of loading, shipping and riding clients’ horses , one after another, it was time to braid them – one after another.  As my fingers worked mechanically, I sang – usually old classic hymns and gospel songs, one after another.

Good music anchors you doesn’t it?  It reminds me of what’s true and, beautiful and good.  It calms waves of nervousness, offering a break from  rehearsing my to-do list and  what-ifs.

The show-tent stall was a little hub of quiet in the bustling barn aisles and the nervous chatter of riders washing horse tails and telling horse tales.

Here’s a link to a good article on how to braid a mane.
